November

This week has been a bit crazy for me. Monday I was supposed to have an interview at 2:00 at the University for an LTE office support staff position. Before my interview, I was going to head to Roseville to pick up a bunch of clothing for Laura that I found on Craigslist (mother-in-law found it, I acted on it). Right before I was leaving the house to head to Roseville, the lady from HR called to tell me the interview was cancelled. The person who was leaving (hence the opening) decided to stay on. So I quickly change out of interview clothes (who wants to dress up if you don’t have to?) and Laura and I head into Minnesota. We get the clothes and on the way back home I decided to swing through Maplewood so my rings could be cleaned and inspected. They are supposed to be done every 6 months, but I think the last time I was in there was Feb. Laura has done so well up to this point. It is lunch time. I figured we would hit a McDs on the way back to River Falls. We stopped for lunch in the Hudson. Silly Mommy forgot to bring someone’s sippy cup. She hasn’t figured out how to drink out of a straw yet. So she tried as hard as she could to just drink from the jug, but couldn’t quite get it. We finish lunch and head to River Falls to show her off as Tigger (her Halloween costume). Before leaving the house, she has had only one nap that lasted an hour long. She is getting tired and I can tell. We make a few stops around campus and then head home. I had forgotten how thirsty she was. Before leaving River Falls I stopped at a gas station to pick up a bottle of water (one with the spout). She took it and chugged that water. I felt bad for letting her go so long without water. :(

Tuesday…. Laura got up at 6. Ever since the time change she hasn’t changed her body clock. So instead of getting up at 7, she is getting up at 6. Not my idea of fun, but it’s not easy to convince a 1 1/2 year old to change her body clock. Rober and I left to vote at 7:10. We finished around 7:40. Laura and I came back home, and I got her breakfast. I was checking out my websites while she sat and ate. I looked over at one point and she was almost asleep in her high chair. I cleaned her up and put her to bed. Three hours later she wakes up again. I had to take her to daycare while I went to my weekly appointments. She had a blast. She was also throwing some sand around and eating it too. Ick. The daycare lady tried to get her to stop, but Laura takes after her mother in some ways. :)

Today the original plan for Melissa (friend/Laura’s godmother) and I to go to story time at the Hudson library, do lunch, then drop the girls off at someone’s house so we could go back to Hudson to take a test to become census workers. Well, Laura decided it was nap time at 8:45 or so. She was just falling asleep at 9. If we would have gone to story time, that would have meant leaving the house at 9:15 since I had to go to New Richmond before heading to Hudson. I coulnd’t take her out and about for a full day on a 15 minute nap. So I cancelled story time. Laura had about a 2 hour nap, and we got her packed up and ready to go. We had lunch at Melissa’s since the weather was too iffy to do a picnic. We dropped the girls off at Heather’s house. I know Heather from subbing. We went to take the test. Melissa was told that we had to be there on time. Once the doors were closed, you were SOL. We get there right at 1:30 (when the doors should be closing). The guy giving the test was packing up getting ready to leave. Melissa and I were the only ones there. We got the paperwork filled out. We took the test (half hour), and then went back to pick up the girls. We didn’t get to spend a lot of time chatting with Heather since Melissa needed to get to work. From there, Laura and I came back home. The little girl fell asleep on the way home, but as soon as I got her out of her car seat she was wide awake and ready to go again. There went any hopes for an afternoon nap. She was pretty good mannered for the rest of the evening. She didn’t eat much for lunch or dinner tonight. I know that she’ll eat when she is hungry, but I get concerned at times when she eats only cheerios and drinks milk.

Tonight I attempted to make creamy chicken and wild rice soup. It didn’t turn out too bad. I wish it could have simmered all day. It also wasn’t as creamy as I had hoped. The flavors were very good though. I need to add a little something, but I’m not sure what that something was. I’ll have to look at some recipes and compare them to what I created tonight.

Tomorrow I am working a full day, and then Friday I work in the afternoon. As far as I know, my in-laws are coming for dinner Friday night. I’ll have to think of something to make. We haven’t done grocery shopping for a while, so meals are becoming a little more creative. I think I’ll have to break down and do some grocery shopping Friday morning. We’ll see. This weekend there isn’t much on the agenda. I am thinking that I should be there for Sunday school supervisor Sunday morning. Robert is communion assistant at the 10:30 service. I am thinking about going to church Saturday evening, then just do the Sunday school thing Sunday and then come back home. If we time it right, we may not interfere with Laura’s naptime. We’ll have to see.

I’m trying out a new attitude this week. Instead of asking “why me?” or “why doesn’t someone else?”, I’m asking myself “why not me?”. It’s a bit of a change.
