December

Another year almost gone…

I haven’t meant to be so quiet lately.  I have been in a bit of a funk, plus with the craziness of Christmas, I haven’t had much time to post like I want to.  Our Christmas went well.  Laura has loved every present.  I think her favorite is her Dora, Diego, and Baby Jaguar dolls.  She is also having fun making Picasso-esque creations on Mr. Potato Head.  Warren doesn’t care much since he doesn’t really know what is going on.  He does like his moose that I bought.  It hangs down from something and he can sit and play with it.  It is useful to put on his carseat handle while we are shopping.  I don’t leave it up while traveling for safety reasons.

We went to the 5:00 service Christmas Eve.  It was a very nice service.  :)  For Christmas day, we did our presents/Santa stuff in the morning.  I also made cinnamon rolls (not from scratch) for breakfast.  After presents were opened, we decided we would venture up north to my in-laws.  The roads weren’t wonderful, but they also weren’t the worst we’ve traveled on before.  We had dinner and presents.  James brought his girlfriend along, and it was nice to meet her.  She fits in quite well.  They have only been dating for a few months, so I don’t know how serious they are exactly.  That evening we were home around 5 and just took it easy.  The past few days have been low key.

We tried to go to church as a family this morning.  Right before leaving, Warren woke up.  I got him dressed and decided I would feed him at church rather than take the time to do it at home (it was time to be out the door).  Once we got to church (got there about 30 seconds before it started), I asked Robert to make up a bottle.  We had forgotten to pack a bottle.  We had the formula powder and the water, but no way for the little boy to drink it.  Oops.  I figured I had enough time to run home and grab a bottle and come back.  After getting behind several slow people (I think I was actually trying to go faster than I should, but I was in a hurry!), I finally made it home and back to church.  It was just about time for communion!  I couldn’t believe that the service went so fast (PJ wasn’t there, so there was a sub).  I get the bottle mixed up, get Warren eating, just in time to get at the end of the line for communion.  We say the communion blessing, sing a hymn, closing lines, and church was over.  I couldn’t believe that I missed just about all of it.  Thankfully I made it back before Robert had to be up front for communion assistant.  Oh well, I get points for trying to go.

Laura has started to change her naptimes around on me.  She used to be down between 11:30 and 12.  The past few days, she has gone down around 12:30 and not fallen asleep until 1:30 or so.  This means she is sleeping until 3:30 or 4.  This is not causing any problems with bed times.  It is just throwing me off having her go down for nap so late.  She has been taking Dora,Diego, and Baby Jaguar to bed with her and playing.  I think that is part of the change.  We’ll see how this week goes.

Speaking of this week, it is going to fly by.  I am on my own with the kids all day Monday and Tuesday.  Robert is taking a half day on Wednesday (afternoon).  I am going out with Mandy and Jess that afternoon/evening.  Thursday Robert is doing a geek outing so I am on my own for the afternoon (he has Thursday and Friday off).  The plans for the weekend are up in the air.  It is the Iowa families Christmas weekend.  I would love to try and make it to both family Christmases.  However, Warren does not ride in the car very well.  I think we could make it to Estherville, but the drive home from Irwin is what worries me the most.  Typically, Warren will do fine the first hour, but then cries on and off the rest of the trip.  I would really rather not put him through that for a trip that takes 6.5 hours without stops.  It could easily turn into a 12-16 hour car ride home.  Not my (or Robert’s) idea of fun.  I’m going to call the doctor tomorrow morning and ask if there is anything we can do to help him ride better, but I doubt that there is.  He is still pretty young to try and medicate.  If there is nothing we can do, then we’ll attempt Estherville, but skip Irwin.

Well, last night wasn’t so great for us.  I went to bed around 10, Warren was up from 1-3, then again for the day at 7.  So not much sleep for me.  Time for me to call it a day.  I’ll try to get some Christmas pictures uploaded soon.
