Today exceeded my expectations. We had Owen’s birthday party at 11. Usually this is the time Laura starts to eat lunch and is in bed around noon. Today she didn’t get lunch until a little after noon. She played with Owen’s toys for most of the party. She is still too young to really play with other kids. I think it was around 2 or 2:30 that we decided to head out. The original plan was to have both kids nap at John & Kathy’s before coming home. Otherwise Laura would fall sleep on the way home (getting only 30 min nap or so) and call it good enough for the day. Well, we got Warren situated pretty easily. He was just ready to lay out and get a good nap. Laura on the other hand wasn’t so easy. She fussed and cried for a bit. Just about the time when we were going to give up and just drive home she fell asleep. Unfortunately, she got an hour or less for nap (she usually does 2-3 hours). I think she woke up a little bit and didn’t remember where she was and freaked out. She was still very tired, but wouldn’t go back to sleep. Robert was helping his parents down in the barn when she woke up, so I just cuddled her for a bit. He came back, and we made the decision to just come home.
Tonight has been full of tears. The smallest thing is setting Laura off. I understand why she is doing it tonight. I know it’s because she is so tired and didn’t get a good nap. That doesn’t make it any easier to not get upset and frustrated though. Robert is currently reading her a story and putting her to bed. Warren was easy to get down tonight. I gave him a bath, Robert cuddled him while I cooked dinner (chicken a la king), and he is currently sleeping in our room. I’m hoping for a good night out of him. If he wakes up around midnight or 1 to eat, that would be fine because he will then go until 6 or so giving us a nice stretch of sleep.
Robert has communion duties at church again tomorrow. I am strongly considering staying home with the kids so that Laura can get a good lunch and nap in. I hate to mess with it too many days. This coming weekend will be a challenge too since we’ll be at my mom’s.
Well, she is down for the night. Food is ready. Time to go!
