WTF!? I woke up this morning … December 5th… and it was 58 degrees!!! Sh*t! I wore my winter coat to work anyway even though I figured I wouldn’t need it … but maybe … Well … what happened? The temperature dropped 30 degrees by the time I left work and I was glad I had my coat.
Work sucked. I discovered I f*cked up yesterday and my lab machines decided this morning they didn’t need some “minor” applications like Microsoft Office and Netscape. This was a problem. I spent pretty much the entire day reloading computers. =P I’ve decided this problem could have been averted if the lab server was running a UNIX-like OS. So, I fired off an email to the lab software manager asking his opinion on the subject, since the lab servers are apparently possibly being replaced within the next year.
Well, I know I’m not doing real well in keeping this journal up-to-date, but I could be worse I think.

long week

It’s been a long week. Work has been hectic … stressful … but overall it’s been positive. I’m glad the week is over though. I need sleep. Badly… which is why I’m going to bed shortly. Matter of fact, I’m nearly falling face-first onto the keyboard, so I should really go. I’m surprised I can type as well as I am. Funny that. Now I’m getting incoherent … I should really get to bed. Brush my teeth and all that. Maybe think about what I’m going to do tomorrow … put some stuff away on my desk. No … must … sleep …….. must stave off sleep-starvation psychosis….

1. I love you not because of who you are, but because of who I am when I am with you.
2. No man or woman is worth your tears, and the one who is, won’t make you cry.
3. Just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to, doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.
4. A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.
5. The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside them knowing you can’t have them.
6. Never frown, even when you are sad, because you never know who is falling in love with your smile.
7. To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.
8. Don’t waste your time on a man/woman, who isn’t willing to waste their time on you.
9. Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one, so that when we finally meet the person, we will know how to be grateful.
10. Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened.
11. There’s always going to be people that hurt you so what you have to do is keep on trusting and just be more careful about who you trust next time around.
12. Make yourself a better person and know who you are before you try and know someone else and expect them to know you.
13. Don’t try so hard, the best things come when you least expect them to.
REMEMBER: WHATEVER HAPPENS, HAPPENS FOR A REASON.

I’ve decided that companies that provide crappy tech support make me grouchy. I bought an analog->DV converter to capture video onto my computer for editing. The darn thing doesn’t work… as in pretty much DOA. Sure the little lights light up, but it doesn’t do what it’s supposed to. I have called and left a message for tech support 3 times. I’ve emailed their tech support once and their sales guy twice. It’s been two weeks since I first tried contacting them and I’m getting pretty pissed off.
I’m almost tempted to go with a competing product that I know will work, but doesn’t have some of the nice features this box does. Okay … enough pissing and moaning.
I need to go to bed. I woke up way too early this morning (as in an hour before my normal wake-up time of 6:45am).
Tomorrow morning I get to have some fun learning about audio equipment. We’re going to lobby for a replacement sound system for the Davis Theatre at UWRF. The current system is … shall we say … inadequate. It’s rated at 110 watts/channel @ 8ohms. In a theatre. Sheesh. We’re going to try and replace it with one that’s rated at 500 watts/channel @ 8ohms (1200 watts @ 2 ohms). Arrrh…. Arrrrh…. Arrh… (Tim Allen grunts).

Man … I reall gotta get back into doing this. This business of posting every few weeks isn’t particularly cool.
I had a good day at work. I didn’t get much done, but I actually found the top of my desk again. I was considering sending out a message that said “Sighted! Robert’s Desk! More at 11!”. Well, I didn’t.
I’ve decided that naps in the middle of the day are cool. I took a break from work at 12:30 and went to my gf’s room to nap with her (and yes, we did *nap* … nothing more). Of course I had to stay late to make up the time, but I was planning on doing that anyway.
I finally heard back from somebody at PowerR (I bought an analog->DV converter from them two weeks ago that doesn’t work). He wasn’t real helpful off the bat, but at least I got his attention with the email I sent. I’m really looking forward to playing with this video editing stuff. I also discovered that the sound-editing software I got is pretty nifty.
Next week I get to work with one of my coworkers on fixing up the sound system in the theatre where we have our Dance Theatre performances. I decided I was sick of over-heating the equipment and wanted to do my best to make sure that the concert this spring has some serious sound. I just did some research and discovered that the amplifier in the theatre is rated for 140 watts/channel max. What the hell?! No wonder we were overheating the damn thing running 4 speakers on it cranked. Yiy! Gotta get a better amplifier in there.
Well, ta-ta for now. Hope to post again soon.

Tuesday evening when I was driving back from the Dance Theatre meeting, I noted that the clouds looked very grim. So grim in fact that they reminded me of those movie scenes which show the coming of the apocolypse. I looked at the trees and they were decidedly grey, though they had patches of brown too. And the wind was blowing hard … a flash of lightning in the distance, a gust of wind. Yiy. I just had to share that scene because of the thoughts it provoked.

… I hurt. I cut and split wood for 3 hrs. Oak. Ouch. I’m quite wiped out. I think I should sleep pretty well tonight I’m not too sore to sleep comfortably.
I nearly forgot how much I enjoy splitting wood though. It’s even more fun when doing it out in the woods (or a field near the woods in this case).

… kick ass. Gaelic Storm performed in North Hall auditorium tonight. I took Liz of course. It was my 4th time seeing them. I acquired their 3rd CD and a t-shirt. I’m still energized from that concert, which is probably actually a bad thing because I need to go to sleep. Next week we’re going to see Barrage at the Ordway Theatre in St. Paul. Liz says they’re similar. Should be interesting.

I’m back home. It was a nice and relaxing weekend. I took a total of about 227 pictures, nearly all of which turned out. There were some scenes on the way back that I would have liked to have captured, but didn’t, including a small lake with the fall colours reflecting in it, a shot of the sunset with jet contrails streaking out of it, and a gorgous shot of the moon rising. A very fulfilling weekend overall I think.

Got some awesome pictures from the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. The fall colours up here are awesome. I’m glad I insisted on taking this weekend to come up here. Lots of reds and yellows … and they look really cool against the deep greens of the pine trees. I will post them on the web of course. :)
