I haven’t seen SW: Ep 3 yet. Been too busy.

Liz ran across an amusing userpic … from firelustlady.

And last, but not least … for the geeks. A new potential favorite number: 3737844653 (translate that into hex to see why).

Okay, so this doesn’t mean much to most people who read this, but I wanted to stick a note somewhere I could find it later since I keep forgetting this little tidbit.
I recently upgraded MythTV to version 0.18. I got reminded of a bug or something. Basically channel changing doesn’t work if the drivers for the tv tuner card (at least mine, the PVR-350) aren’t loaded before the mythbackend process starts. So, to fix this, I stop mythbackend, load the drivers (which I don’t have automatically loading at the moment), restart mythtbackend and then restart gdm.
Yeah, that’s all greek to some, but will mean something to beldurnik and possibly others.

A while back I bought our kitties some kitty toys … one was a mouse, the other a hedgehog. I joked that we were training our cats to be hedgehog killers. Apparently they learned well … and hid the body. We can’t find it anymore.

This may be “old news” to some (more details here), including me … but the headline from fark.com was really nice …

“Mac Daddy” Jef Raskin dies at 61. “It was as if a million Macintoshes suddenly cried out in sadness, but were suddenly silenced by an AppleTalk error”

To the dipsh*t who decided it would be a fine idea to take a 15 axle semi trailer through River Falls and make a right turn from Hwy 29 onto Hwy 65 heading towards the Cities … what the f*ck were you thinking? It took the driver more than 10 minutes to get through that intersection. To the idiot who programmed the stoplights at that intersection…. what the f*ck!? As it turns out, if the traffic coming out of RF on 29 never clears, the traffic going in the opposite direction never gets a green light. I sat through 3 complete light cycles waiting for a green! *beats people over the head with a clue bat*

This one is going to be short because I’m not feeling well (nasty sore throat and a bit of a fever). This post is dedicated to geekiness. I am considering getting one of these to replace my current Kensington Turbo Mouse, which is an older ADB model connected through an ADB-USB adapter which sometimes flakes out and stops doing it’s job, forcing me to rely on a conventional mouse.
In other news, this past weekend I got my MediaMVP working. This involved cross-compiling a kernel (compiled a PowerPC kernel on x86) and setting up netboot (using TFTP and DHCP of course). The how-to I followed (more-or-less) is here.
Now, off to bed to get some sleep. Hopefully I don’t feel this way tomorrow.

Today was fairly productive. I managed to remove XFree86 from my FreeBSD box, being as it doesn’t have a monitor hooked to it and doesn’t really need X. I made several attempts at creating an HREF track in a QuickTime clip, but haven’t been successful yet.
While not really “productive”, I rebooted the mythtv box since the backend had crashed during the recording of the Happy Days reunion the other night (didn’t discover this until we got all sorts of errors trying to view stuff on the web interface today).
This afternoon I did my taxes and got those filed. Yay! I am in the middle of updating software that isn’t quite up-to-date on the server (and trying to eliminate stuff I don’t need in the process).
Tonight Liz and I went across the river for clothes shopping for her… she needs to expand her wardrobe for work. Fun stuff. We then went to Best Buy where I got to spend a gift card. I picked up:
Falling Down
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
History of the World (Mel Brooks)
The Village
After that, we went to Borders, where I picked up Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Then we went to McD’s for food and then home. Fun day, eh? We didn’t go outside much like we had intented to, but that’s okay I think. Tomorrow we start church membership classes, which should be interesting.
