I never met Shane O’Donnell, but today I attended memorial/funeral services for him. Even though I didn’t know him, it was a very moving experience. It is clear to me that this man touched the hearts and lives of hundreds. On 8 Nov 2004 … he died serving our country in Iraq. He died fighting for what he believed in.
There were 1200-1500 people gathered today to honor his life. I came down here this weekend to support those who needed support. A shoulder to cry on. A hand to hold. Some arms to hold another together. After all, I’m an outsider, right? I’m just a rock to hold onto and help others to weather this storm. Well, today, in the end, I cried and mourned the death of a man I had hardly heard of prior to 8 Nov 2004. I hope my presence today helped his family and others who loved him. I have more thoughts, but they refuse to be coherent. I guess that makes sense. Today was a crazy storm of emotions.
