What “home” means

Home has a different meaning to many people.  To some it is their house.  To some it is where their family is.  “Home is where the heart is” is a common saying.  To me, it is all the above.  Robert and I lived in a house together before we were married, and for a year after we were married.  It never truly felt like home to me.  It was just a house that we shared.  Now, I truly have my own home.  This is the house that we picked out together.  It is where we started our family.  It is where we brought each of our children home from the hospital after they were born.  It is where I want to be most often.

In addition to home here with Robert, I have home in DeForest.  My childhood home will also be home to me.  As I get older, the two homes have taken on their own special meanings.

This brings up a question that I’m not sure I am ready to explore the answer to.  If we move, how long will it take for the new house to become home?  Will this house always be home to me?  I know that I’m putting a lot of myself into painting, finishing the basement, and other home projects.
