Thankful Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was good this year.  Thanksgiving dinner was just Mom, Dad, Robert, Laura, Warren, and me.  We got to DeForest around 11:30 on Wednesday.  Warren decided to start his day at 5:15am, so we took advantage.  We finished packing and got on the road early.  Laura woke up, was changed and dressed, then put in the car.  She even ate breakfast on the road.  We made two stops on the way down, which wasn’t too bad.  Laura even got a bit of a nap after we got there.  :)  Wednesday afternoon was quiet.

Thursday was an ok day.  Laura’s meals were really messed up, but her naps were sort of on schedule.  She slept for about an hour and half I think.  It wasn’t really long enough, but she did ok.  Like I said, it was just us for dinner, but that is ok.  We didn’t actuallly do much the rest of the afternoon, but it was nice to have a quiet day.

Friday morning started early again.  Warren decided to start his day by 6am every day we were down there.  Mom and I started cookies by 8:15am.  I was in charge of mixing up the batches of cookies.  I think someone else should be in charge of that next year!  I messed up one batch of the peanut butter balls.  The rice krispies didn’t mix in right so we ended up tossing it and trying again.  I did the roll-out cookies next.  I only added one egg when it called for two.  I noticed this as I was mixing up the spritz cookies.  So I finished the spritz, fixed the roll-outs, and then was going to mix up the gingersnaps.  However, I had to go back and make another batch of spritz.  The gingersnaps were next.  The recipe called for 3/4 c. butter.  I needed a double batch.  My brain wasn’t engaged and I put in 6 sticks of butter.  Too much.  Thankfully Mom caught it before I mixed and we could just pull out 3 of the sticks.    The peanut butter chocolate star cookies didn’t have many problems.  I had to fix the gingersnaps and add more flour so they weren’t so sticky.  I think I had a problem with just about every batch of cookies I tried to mix up.  UGH!

Laura provided a lighthearted moment that we laughed about the entire weekend.  In the afternoon I did a beverage run to the basement.  Tamara had asked me to bring up a beer for her.  I get up to the kitchen and Laura is there.  She looks at me with the beer in my hands.  “Mommy’s coffee!”  I don’t know why she said it, but it gave us a good laugh.  “Now when Liz says she had 4 cups of coffee in the morning, we know what she was really having!”  So my beverage the rest of the weekend was coffee, no matter what it was.

Saturday was a quiet day.  I ended up napping for 2.5 hours in the afternoon.  We went to Tamara’s for dinner and game night.  Robert ended up going back with Laura at 7 or so.  I stayed with Dad and Warren.  We ended up playing Dominoes until 11:10!  It’s been a while since I was up that late.

Sunday morning we packed up to head home.  We were on the road around 10:30.  The traffic was heavy, which was to be expected.  We got off at Menomonie and took Highway 12 the rest of the way for a change of pace.  Warren decided to have us stop at Tomah for lunch.  We had hoped to make it further, but he had other ideas.  Our next stop was Eau Claire.  The hope was just a diaper change.  2 minutes after getting back on the road, he decided it was time to eat again.  I really didn’t want to stop yet again, so I just mixed up a bottle and fed him while we were driving.  We made it the rest of the way without stopping.  Laura was pushing our buttons by the time we were almost home.  She was whiny and yelling.  Of course her yelling scared Warren causing him to cry.  I was ready to hang her up by her toenails by the time we got home!

Today is going to be a quiet day around the house.  I had to make sure I was around for our camera delivery (signature required).  That has come, so now the day is wide open.  I need to get the Christmas cookies out to the garage.  I would like to try making a few items yet.  I want to try fudge this year, make a toffee and the pecan tassies.  We’ll see what else strikes my fancy as Christmas gets closer.  Laura is happy to be home.  She keeps quoting parts of Hand Hand Finger Thumb.

I’m really looking forward to Christmas with Laura this year.  She is getting into the holidays more.  I still need to find a Christmas outfit for Warren.  I want to find it soon so they can both wear Christmas outfits when we go see Santa.  He is going to be at Kelley Gallery in Hudson soon.

I’m getting really excited for my date on Friday with Robert.  We haven’t figured out where we are going out to eat yet.  There are so many choices!

Time to spend time with Laura while Warren naps.  She treasures the one-on-one time.  TTFN!
