Better Days Ahead

The last couple days have gone much better.  Laura has gone 2 days in a row without having a timeout.  :)  I tried to do a little more potty training with her this morning.  We sat in the bathroom for at least half an hour.  She would not go.  I put a diaper on her and it was soaked almost immediately.  I don’t know how to get her to relax and let it happen.  I think once she goes in the potty once she’ll just take off with the concept.  It is just getting her over the first hurdle.

Yesterday I was feeling pretty down about myself (some personal stuff and things with Robert and I).  I needed to do something to make me feel better about myself.  I went on a cleaning spree.  I picked up the living room, vaccumed and shampooed the carpet.  I folded the load of kids’ clothes and put them away, and stuffed and folded the diapers.  I loaded the dishwasher, ran it, unpacked it, and reloaded it.  I washed all the dishes that couldn’t go in the dishwasher, cleared off part of the island, then swept and mopped the floor.  It feels so good to have a clean house.  :)  I might tackle the bathroom tomorrow.  It would be nice to get it clean.  I still haven’t worked in the bedroom like I want to.  Perhaps that’ll get done this weekend as well.

Yesterday Laura got her flu vaccination.  It was just the regular flu vaccine.  Once it is available, I would like her to get the H1N1 as well.  There is just too much scary stuff to take the risk.  I may call the Shopko pharmacy tomorrow and ask if I can get a flu shot from them.  The clinic isn’t giving them out to adults, just the young kids and older adults.

Tomorrow I was supposed to meet up with Mandy and Jess for breakfast in Eau Claire.  Mandy is now sick.  I think I’ll stay away, not that she is planning on going anyway.  I am bummed.  I was supposed to go out this weekend with them, but it isn’t looking likely.  Hopefully we can get something planned soon.

Laura is wanting to be my helper in any way possible.  She is loving to watch me cook.  Last night she wasn’t happy when I wouldn’t let her have a bite of the raw onion I was chopping.  Then I had her keep her distance from the stove.  I know, I’m such a mean mommy.  She is liking to help feed Warren too.  Of course, she tends to tip the bottle a bit so the milk doesn’t flow completely into the nipple, which leads to a gassy baby.  Not so good.  I’m pumping a lot right now, so she likes to try and help me with that too.  Let’s just say that it doesn’t work so well when she wants to help.

She is also becoming a little mommy to her teddy bears and baby.  She is pretending to change their diapers, and even wants Warren’s diapers on her baby.  Robert even went so far as flushing imaginary poo tonight.  I had Warren sleeping on my chest and it took all my will power to not laugh out loud and wake him up.  As soon as Warren is out of the swing or chair, her stuffed animal or baby is in it.  Fortunately, the controls for the swing are high enough up that she can’t reach them to turn it on.  I’d be charging the batteries for it twice a day if she could reach.

Warren is also developing, just more physical than “doing tricks”.  He is starting to coo a lot more, including the “oooh” sound.  He was laying on the floor tonight just cooing, smiling, and kicking.  I was talking to him that I’m onto him.  He stays up late so he can get one-on-one time with me.  He doesn’t get a lot during the day with Laura around.  She makes sure of that!

I feel like I am doing a decent job of balancing to the two kids.  I was/am afraid at times of giving one more attention than the other.  I am naturally a baby person.  I love to hold and cuddle them.  I was afraid that I would give all my attention to Warren and Laura would be left out.  I think we are at a happy medium.  Yes, Warren needs more devoted attention at times just due to him being so littloe and unable to do much of anything.  I do make sure to take time to focus just on Laura when he is sleeping.  We read books together a lot.  She is also getting a lot of my attention with attempting to potty train.  I am loving being with Laura because she is so creative and she has a great sense of humor.  She loves to learn new things and show off.  I can truly interact with her and get unique responses.

Well, Warren just went down, so we need to head to bed.  I am hoping that since he ate a little later tonight he will sleep a little longer.  He currently has been eating around 8 and waking up around 4 to eat.  Tonight he last ate around 9:30, so hopefully we’ll get to sleep until 5 or so?  But, time to sign off.  TTFN!
